Over the past six months, I’ve studied intensely to pass my Sommelier exam. Italy has always felt like one of the most complicated countries to learn in my studies. But I came across Tony’s videos and have come away with a tremendously clearer understanding of Italy’s major wine regions. There is real passion behind Tony’s craft, as well as deep knowledge and mastery that you could only expect from a dedicated veteran of the trade. Thank you, Tony, for your efforts to share the beauty Italian wine. They’ve helped immensely in my studies, and taught me where my new favorite wines hail from!

I enjoyed the video. Thirty years ago I was bitten by the wine collecting bug and I just recently started to deep dive into Italian wines. I wish I had started earlier.

My mother was born in udine, the friuli is an amazing region, stunning landscapes, lovely food & my favourite wine tokai, now known as friulano. If you want to visit a beautiful part of italy that hasn't been ruined by tourism, then i recommend the friuli.

Wow, this is excellent. Margiotta seamlessly weaves prehistory, history, terroir, agriculture, winemaking, family... a beautiful score, ample views of the land, discussion of processes, weather, the list goes on and on. Remarkably balanced, full-bodied, and satisfying, not unlike a fine bottle of Amarone. Great job!

I really enjoy how you approach this like a documentarian, but also get very specific about one single vineyard. Watching your content is a singular experience that educates on broad subjects, and then zeros in on particular vintners with great detail. Very enjoyable. (and having just finished your Valipocella doc) too short! 50 minutes, please! 😅

Spectacular episode!

Great Video. The Campanian white wines are that much more fun to drink than the grape varieties of my country. Riesling is great from the Mosel region because the sweetness and acidity balance is an interesting expression of Riesling grape varieties. And then we have the Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris), Grüner Veltliner (more Austrian) and Gewürztraminer (a grape variety which has some floral notes which brings out great aromas). But then I ran into an italian Antipasti store and was simply blown away by the Falanghina and Greco di Tufo. The Minerality of the wines in this region shines through like I've never experienced it before and the zestiness and the flavors of Mangos and other tropical fruits was so interesting to me that I had to check out this region and learn a bit more about it. Great wines through and through.

My favorite. Delicate, complex but powerful. Great acid. Balanced. Drinking a Gaja right now.

I buy wine from Tony! He certainly knows his Italian wines and always brings the best stuff!

We visited Francavilla al Mare a few years ago. It is a fun area on the Adriatic with nearby old hilltowns. I was surprised to see you selected a wine from there and will have to try it.

While it is expensive. It’s still the best wine for the money…. Look for one that’s at least 5 years old and it really will be the only wine you’ll ever want to buy. Barolo, amarone, and primativo all I buy. Mostly amarone….
